I'm going to paint my Mav soon and I was looking for some good references, yours are two of the best i've found!
any tips for beginners?

Hmm...things I would recommend (at least things I did that seemed to work well):
1) Disassemble the gun (and take reference pieces for putting it back together) and do a base color with spray paint. I use black, but any dark color would work. Taking it apart lets you do the different colors cleaner (unless you have a really steady hand, which I don't). Watch out for bouncing springs, they can run awry when you take things apart.
2) For the main painting, I use a dry brush technique (with firmer bristled, flat brushes and less paint) to build up the color. I use Folkart metallic craft acrylics (which are $1-$2 a bottle) and layer up from the base coat. Then you can seal it if you want and reassemble. Sometimes I have to do more painting when it's reassembled to smooth seams and such.
